FCI Three Rivers Overview
FCI Three Rivers is a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility at US Highway 72 West in Three Rivers, Texas. It is physically in Live Oak County, but it is not run by the Live Oak County Sheriff's Office. The BOP describes it as a medium-security Federal Correctional Institution for male inmates with an adjacent minimum-security satellite camp. The camp is part of the same federal facility complex but serves a lower security population.
This distinction drives every search and contact step. The county jail handles local, McMullen County, and some other contract custody. FCI Three Rivers houses sentenced federal inmates under BOP authority. A person booked after a Live Oak arrest will not appear at FCI Three Rivers unless a federal sentence or federal placement later sends that person into BOP custody. County booking charges, local bond, and sheriff visitation rules do not control this federal institution.
The BOP facility page for FCI Three Rivers is the official source for its public facility profile, contact links, and visiting resources.
Use the BOP facility profile for federal facility details, then use the separate BOP locator when the goal is to confirm a specific inmate's custody location.
FCI Three Rivers Population
BOP public location data modified June 25, 2026 listed 913 inmates at the main FCI and 253 at the satellite camp, for 1,166 total. The research did not locate an official public rated capacity number for FCI Three Rivers, so the stat block uses current population rather than capacity. Federal prison population counts can change as BOP transfers inmates, recalculates release dates, or changes assignments after classification review.
| Unit | Population | Source Date |
|---|---|---|
| Main FCI | 913 | BOP public data modified June 25, 2026 |
| Minimum-security camp | 253 | BOP public data modified June 25, 2026 |
| Total complex | 1,166 | BOP public data modified June 25, 2026 |
FCI Three Rivers Lookup
Use the BOP Inmate Locator to search for a federal inmate at FCI Three Rivers. Do not use the Live Oak County Jail phone line for a BOP prison search unless the person may still be in local jail before federal transfer. BOP says its locator covers federal inmates incarcerated from 1982 to the present, and it warns that release dates may change because sentence calculations can be recalculated.
- Open the BOP Inmate Locator and choose a number search or a name search.
- For number search, use the BOP Register Number, DCDC Number, FBI Number, or INS Number if known.
- For name search, enter first and last name, then narrow with middle name, race, age, or sex if needed.
- Review the result for register number, age, race, sex, release date, and location.
- If the location says FCI Three Rivers or the satellite camp, use the BOP facility contact and mail rules rather than county jail rules.
The BOP Inmate Locator search page shows both number and name search paths for federal inmates.
The locator is the main custody confirmation tool. It is not a county booking roster, and it does not provide public federal mugshots in the same way some county jail websites do.
FCI Three Rivers Contact
The public BOP page and BOP location data list the facility's phone, fax, email contact, physical address, inmate mail address, and staff mail address. Use the phone line before travel because visiting may be restricted or canceled by the warden, weather, security conditions, or other events. Use the correct address type because inmate mail, staff mail, and shipping are not the same.

FCI Three Rivers Visits
BOP links a facility-specific visiting regulations PDF for FCI Three Rivers and warns that typical visiting hours may not cover all cases. Call 361-786-3576 before travel. The warden may cancel or restrict visits for safety, security, severe weather, or other incidents. Federal prison visiting also depends on approval, inmate status, security level, and the visitor's compliance with BOP and facility rules.

Do not apply Live Oak County Jail weekend time blocks to FCI Three Rivers. The county jail uses a local schedule by female, separation, and male inmate groups. FCI Three Rivers uses federal prison rules. Visitors should also expect security screening, identification checks, dress rules, and possible limits based on the inmate's status or facility conditions.
FCI Three Rivers Mail
Mail and money must be routed through BOP rules. Inmate mail and parcels for both the FCI and the camp go to P.O. Box 4200, Three Rivers, Texas 78071. Staff mail goes to P.O. Box 4000. Physical or shipping deliveries use US Highway 72 West. BOP warns not to send money to a federal inmate using the facility address. Funds for federal inmates are handled under BOP money rules, including the federal processing center, not a county jail commissary counter.
| Service | Provider or Detail |
|---|---|
| Inmate mail | P.O. Box 4200, Three Rivers, TX 78071 |
| Staff mail | P.O. Box 4000, Three Rivers, TX 78071 |
| Money | Do not send funds to the facility address. Use BOP inmate money procedures. |
| Commissary | Facility-specific BOP commissary list linked from the FCI Three Rivers page |
The BOP page also links a commissary list, inmate resources, PREA materials, and other federal resources. Those resources are separate from JailATM, JailFunds, and Crown telephone services used or named for the county jail. A federal inmate's register number is often needed to keep mail or money tied to the right person.
FCI Three Rivers Intake
FCI Three Rivers is a sentenced federal prison, so intake is not the same as a street arrest booking at the Live Oak County Jail. Federal placement follows court judgment, BOP designation, transport, intake screening, classification, and assignment to the main FCI or the minimum-security camp. Classification is the process used to decide security, housing, programs, work assignment, and other placement factors.
A person with a new federal charge may be in U.S. Marshals custody, a local contract jail, or another holding site before BOP designation. The BOP locator may not show a person the same way before sentenced custody begins. If the person is not in the BOP locator and the case is recent, check federal court channels or the custodian named in the court record. For local Live Oak arrests, check sheriff custody first through the Live Oak County jail inmate records workflow.
FCI Three Rivers Records
A BOP locator result is a federal prison status result. It may show name, register number, age, race, sex, release date, and current location. It does not replace a federal court docket, a sentencing judgment, a local arrest booking sheet, or a county bond record. BOP also does not publish public federal mugshots through the locator, so a search result should not be treated as a mugshot gallery.
- BOP Register Number
- The main federal inmate identifier used in BOP records and mail routing.
- DCDC, FBI, or INS Number
- Other identifier types that can be used in the BOP number search when known.
- Release Date
- A federal date estimate that BOP says may change after sentence recalculation.
- Location
- The facility shown by the locator, such as FCI Three Rivers or another BOP site.
About FCI Three Rivers
FCI Three Rivers gives Live Oak County a large federal custody footprint that is separate from the county jail. The BOP population total reported in June 2026 was far larger than the sheriff jail population snapshot, but the populations answer different questions. BOP counts sentenced federal inmates at the FCI and camp. TCJS counts county jail custody at the sheriff facility, including local, contract, and housed categories reported on the first day of the month.
No TDCJ state prison was identified inside Live Oak County during the research sweep. That means a search may split three ways: Live Oak County Jail for sheriff custody, TDCJ for sentenced Texas state prisoners, and BOP for sentenced federal prisoners at FCI Three Rivers or another federal institution. Texas VINELink may help with custody notifications, but it is not the same as a BOP profile, county booking sheet, or court file.
Note: Confirm BOP custody, visiting status, and mail rules with FCI Three Rivers before travel or sending funds.
