Where to Ask

For a current Live Oak County Jail custody check, start with the jail or sheriff's office. The research did not locate published public lobby hours for these contacts, so call before traveling or relying on in-person service.

Court and Prosecutor Contacts

Jail staff can help with custody status, but court records and filed charges usually come from a clerk or prosecutor. Live Oak County felony matters are tied to the district clerk and the 156th Judicial District Court. Misdemeanor and county-level records may involve the county clerk or county attorney.

The District Clerk notes that requests without a cause number may have a $5 search fee. The County Clerk states that office does not conduct criminal or background searches.

Public Information Requests

When a phone call does not resolve a custody or booking question, a written request may be needed. Texas Government Code Chapter 552 is the Texas Public Information Act. Texas Government Code 552.108(c) also preserves access to basic information about an arrested person, an arrest, or a crime even when some law-enforcement records are excepted from release.
